- Fine furniture should not be exposed to direct sunlight,
heating outlets, open windows or dampness. Wood may change
color when exposed to sunlight over a long period of time.
- Plastic or rubber materials should not be placed directly
on a wood finish. Chemicals in the plastic and some rubber
may soften and damage the finish if in contact with the
furniture over a long period of time. Especially keep
this in mind when placing accessories on the tops of fine
furniture. Be sure to place a strip of felt, leather or
cork under accessories to avoid these markings.
- Liquids should be wiped from the surface of fine furniture
(especially solid wood) surfaces immediately. Use a soft,
slightly damp cloth and wipe in the direction of the wood
grain.
- Soil buildup can be removed (usually every six months)
by rubbing with a soft cloth dampened in a 50/50 solution
of warm water and an ammonia-free detergent. Follow by
wiping the furniture dry (always in the direction of the
wood grain) with a clean cloth dampened with warm water.
- Frequent dusting will remove abrasive dust buildup.
- Occasionally polishing with a high-quality, non-silicone
furniture polish will prolong and enhance fine furniture.
- Scratches or mars can be touched up or covered with
a mar or scratch remover or touch-up stick. These can
be purchased at a paint or hardware store.
